Fine for drug driver

A cabinet maker who was found over the driving limit for cannabis and amphetamines when police noticed his car in an isolated location near Crowland was fined £400 by magistrates.

Lee Dagless, 33, came to the attention of officers just before 11pm on 9 April after they saw his car parked on Welland Bank.

Boston Magistrates’ Court heard the engine was still running and the officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said Dagless was compliant with the officers and returned a positive result for cannabis at the scene.

Once at the police station Dagless returned a positive blood test result of 4.9 for cannabis compared with a legal limit of two, Miss Stace told the court.

Dagless also returned a positive result of 45 for amphetamines compared to a legal limit of ten.

The court heard Dagless, of no fixed address, had no previous convictions. He admitted two offences of being over the specified limit for drugs while in charge of a motor vehicle.

Beris Brickles, mitigating, told the court Dagless suffered from anxiety and depression, and had chosen the spot where he parked up because it was secluded and he found it relaxing.

Mr Brickles said Dagless was waiting for his girlfriend to arrive from Lincoln in her campervan and there intention was to stay at that location for the night.

The court heard Dagless only began smoking the cannabis once he was parked up and had taken the amphetamines at a music venue three days earlier.

Mr Brickles said Dagless had given his father’s address to the court for post as he was currently staying in Deeping St Nicholas during the week while he worked as a cabinet maker in Clay Lake.

Magistrates fined Dagless £400 and placed ten points on his driving licence. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £160 and £85 court costs.
