Feel-good factor gives Sunday Tigers extra incentive ahead of Sincil Bank final

Excited Holbeach United Sunday co-boss Tim Cole feels that everybody in the town is behind them as they bid to win their first-ever trophy this weekend.

The Sunday Tigers make the trip to Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank on Sunday to take on The Notts FC in the final of the Lincs Sunday Cup.

Bossed by Cole and joint player/manager Josh Ford, the Sunday Tigers have been an unstoppable force since forming in the summer – winning all 21 of their games and scoring a whopping 208 goals in the process.

Winning the county cup was earmarked as the main goal by Cole ahead of the Spalding Sunday League season. And he admits that the team can feel a wave of support behind them – which includes a window display by a Holbeach butchers.

Cole said: “Everyone is very excited and the lads have a real buzz about them at the minute in the build up to the final.

“For me, the nerves and excitement have definitely kicked in. At the start of the season it was our aim to win the Lincs Cup, so to get to the final is brilliant achievement in our first season.

“Knowing we are 90 minutes away from potentially winning it is huge. It will mean the world to us and the players if we can do it – and it hasn’t just created a buzz around the club.

“We feel like the whole town is behind us, which is a great feeling. We definitely appreciate everything and all the good luck messages.

“A special thank you goes to Sweepstones Butchers in town, who have dedicated a window display to us.”

BUZZING BOSS: Tim Cole.

Should Holbeach win, they will be only the second Spalding League side to claim the county crown after Pinchbeck United Sunday in 2015.

Standing in their way are a Notts FC side who are top of a very competitive Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Sunday League with 12 wins and two draws from 15 games.

Cole is wary of the threat they pose and is expecting a great final.

Cole added: “As much as we would love to win it, we can’t get ahead ourselves as there are going to be 11 players on the other side of the field wanting to do the same.

“We have looked at their league position and stats, etc, but all that goes out of the window in a cup final. They play in a very tough and competitive league, which will make for a very tough game and one hell of a final.

“But as before, Josh and I will be telling the lads to concentrate on themselves and to make sure we are doing the right things. Come the final whistle, we want to make sure we have no regrets with our performance.”

Holbeach, who will have the likes of Jamie Stevens, Adam Jackson, Jonny Allen, Luke Wilson, Ricky Drury and Jon Fairweather in their squad, hope that more than 100 fans will follow them to Sincil Bank.

It’s a ground that has seen plenty of special occasions this season due to the Imps’ FA Cup run, with Holbeach now hoping to have a cup moment of their own.

“The coaches are just about full now,” said Cole. “There is about 15 seats remaining, so there is well over 80 on the coaches.

“But we also understand a lot are travelling by car. We are very grateful to everybody for their support.

“The fact that Lincoln City have continued to make history this season and have had a fantastic year has definitely added to the excitement factor.”

For those looking to travel, entry is £6, with concessions £4.
