Family leaves shop after 50 years

A family that’s run a Spalding shop for over 50 years has stepped away.

Three generations of the Tamber family have ran Acacia Stores on Acacia Avenue for 52 years.
Most recently it has been run by Sunny and his father Jim after the passing of the latter’s wife Pam 18 months ago.
The pair say ‘it’s not the same’ without Pam and so are closing.
“It’s a very sad day,” said Sunny. “It’s been 50 years and I’ve grown up in the shop.
“I was two months old when we moved in across the road.
“My mum passed away last year, and it’s just not been the same.
“My heart’s not in it so it’s time for a change and dad can retire.”
Jim is set to retire at the age of 73, while Sunny isn’t sure what he’ll do yet.
“The best thing about the shop is being within the community.
“It’s a very good community and we’ve made lifelong friends.
“The next door neighbours been here 50 years and she’s a bit sad, but everything has to come to an end
“It’s the right time.”
The shop is set to be closed for four weeks and reopen under a different brand.
