FA Cup replay for Spalding United, stalemate for Holbeach United

A last-gasp penalty denied Spalding United a guaranteed place in the fourth qualifying round of The Emirates FA Cup on Saturday was they drew 1-1 at Sporting Khalsa, while Holbeach United were held to a 0-0 draw at Eynesbury Rovers in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division.

Starting with the Tulips, a goal from Josh Moreman inside the first 60 seconds looked like being enough to clinch the win and £7,500 prize money up for grabs.

But a foul by keeper Michael Duggan allowed David Meese to net an injury-time penalty and set up a replay at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

That means the scheduled game with Coalville Town has now been postponed.

Meanwhile, Holbeach were held to a drab 0-0 draw at Eynesbury as they lost ground on the high-fliers in the UCL Premier Division. Top trio Leicester Nirvana, Yaxley and Kempston Rovers all won, leaving the Tigers 12 points off top spot with three games in hand.

In the Lincs Junior Cup, Moulton Harrox lost for the first time under Dave Panton as Birchwood United handed them a 3-2 reverse. Aris Placis and Joe Townsend had scored to put Harrox, who were among the favourites, 2-1 up.

Long Sutton Athletic are also out after a 5-3 home defeat against Baston, but Sutton Bridge United progressed with a 3-1 home win over Lincoln Railway and Tydd St Mary are also through after a 3-2 home success against Billinghay Athletic.

Pinchbeck United are also through following a 2-0 victory at Langtoft United. Brad Murrell and Liam Ogden helped themselves to the goals.

Elsewhere, Holbeach United Reserves are just one point off the top of the ChromaSport Peterborough League after beating Netherton United 3-2 at Carter’s Park.
