‘Enviro-crime’ team appointed

A new team to tackle environmental crime, including fly-tipping, in South Holland has been appointed.

Kingdom LA Support Ltd has been appointed across the South and East Lincolnshire Council’s Partnership after previously being appointed by Boston Borough Council.

As previously reported in The Voice, in 2021 it secured 25 prosecutions for Boston in just six months, while South Holland District Council made none at all in the entire year.

That led to the council looking into using an ‘enviro-crime’ team which could also use CCTV cameras bought by the authority in 2021 but up to September last year had yet to be used.

The district council has produced more prosecutions since 2021, including one in Gedney Hill this month.

A partnership spokesman said: “Kingdom will provide foot patrols and overt CCTV surveillance across the partnership to tackle littering, dog fouling and fly tipping.

“Officers will also be able to enforce offences in areas under Public Space Protection Orders.”

Coun Anthony Casson, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection at South Holland District Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver a cost-effective way to tackle enviro-crime issues collectively for all of our residents.

“Good enforcement is the key to public confidence and we are pleased to have Kingdom on board.”
