England Under 25s ladies fall at the final hurdle

Over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12, Spalding’s Ruby Hill and the rest of the England under 25 team travelled to Ffrith Indoor Bowls Club in Wales for the ladies under 25 international series.
Hill played number three in a rink skipped by captain Rachel Tremlett (St. Neots), with Leah Bamford (Folkestone) and Natalie Harrison (Swale) at the front end.
On Saturday, England started with an impressive 42 shot win against the hosts, Wales.
England flew out of the blocks and were 35-8 up at five ends.
Wales never really got a foothold into the game as England won 94-52.
In the afternoon, England backed up their morning performance with a comfortable 60 shot win against Ireland.
England were dominant throughout the match and were always extending their lead before winning 110-50.
Hill’s rink certainly contributed with a 22-13 win against Wales and an incredible 37-9 rink win against Ireland.
With Scotland also beating both Ireland (108-47) and Wales (92-49), this set up a winner-takes-all clash between England and Scotland on Sunday.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the England girls as Scotland proved too strong on the day.
Scotland won on all four rinks and by 35 shots overall, 90-55.
Scotland stopped a run of four successive England series wins.
Although Spalding does not have any club representation in the men’s England under 25 team next week in Ireland, there is plenty of representation in both the men’s and ladies international series in Scotland next month.
