ELO tribute set for SHC fundraiser

A Spalding man has persuaded one of his favourite tribute bands to land in Spalding later this year as part of a fundraiser for Parkinson’s.

Electrik Live Orchestra will be Steppin’ Out to the South Holland Centre and playing a host of hits from Jeff Lynne’s classic band including Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Turn to Stone and Mr Blue Sky.

It’s been organised by Parkinson’s sufferer Mike Lee.

The 66-year-old from Weston was diagnosed with the condition back in 2012 and wanted to give something back.

He’s been following the research into the condition carried out by Sheffield University and wanted to put on a fundraising event for them.

A big fan of Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra, he’s persuaded one of their top tributes to visit Spalding on Saturday, August 26.

“ELO are one of my favourite bands and the Electrik Live Orchestra are phenomemal.

“I’ve had a constant battle with Parkinson’s for a few years now and after I broke my hip after a fall in October, it’s made me wanted to give something back.

“I’m delighted the band have decided to do the concert which will hopefully raise money for the fantastic research into a cure they do in Sheffield, many of whom have said will come down for the show.

“Hopefully we will make it a really good night.”

A spokesman for the South Holland Centre, said: “Enjoy an evening celebrating the distinctive music of Jeff Lynne and the ELO with, what is reputed to be the best ELO Tribute Band currently touring the UK and Europe.

“ELO were one of the bands at the forefront of the British Rock Explosion born out of the 1970s, extremely popular around the planet, writing 39 top 20 singles and 50 million record sales worldwide. ELO were as big as The Beatles or Queen, they were simply astonishing, thanks to the writing of Jeff Lynne.

“Top professional musicians form this ultimate touring band, Gaining critical acclaim, Electrik Live Orchestra give fresh life to the classic hits Mr Blue Sky, Diary of Horace Wimp, Last Train To London, Evil Woman, Showdown, Livin’ Thing, Wild West Hero, Don’t Bring Me Down, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Turn to Stone, Hold on Tight and many, many more.”
