Edey hits debut hat-trick as Holbeach United Sunday maul leaders Sutton Bridge

Daz Edey helped himself to a hat-trick on his Holbeach United Sunday bow as they crushed table-topping Sutton Bridge in the big Spalding Sunday League match of the weekend.

Edey, the current Holbeach United first team assistant boss, was joined on the scoresheet by player/co-boss Josh Ford (2) and Francis Mckeown as the Tigers made light work of their chief rivals for the title.

Goal machine Matt Eaton did get a consolation for Bridge, who had Sam Stockdale sent off.

The win leaves Bridge two points clear of Swineshead at the top, with unbeaten Holbeach nine points off the pace in third – albeit with five games in hand.

Elsewhere, Chris Taylor netted a treble to inspire Jubilee to a 5-2 victory over defending champions Pinchbeck United Sunday.

Jason Chilvers and Matt Cannon also got in on the act to move Paul Rudkin’s charges up to fourth.

In the John Chappell Shield, Punchbowl Tigers booked a final date with Holbeach by beating Mulberry 4-0.

  • Goals from Jake Clitheroe and Joe Harrison couldn’t stop Sutton St James going down 7-2 against Maltings in the King’s Lynn and District Sunday League’s Hardysheen Cup.

Corey Brady netted a treble for the victors in the quarter-final clash, but Sutton were by no means outclassed.

Elsewhere, Fleet UC were handed a 5-1 defeat by March in Division Two, despite Joe Broomfield’s late goal. Ash Taylor, James Schulmann, Dan Smethurst and James Hazel (2) bagged for March.
