Dunn’s plan goes like clockwork as debutant Ewan inspires big Pinchbeck United win

Pinchbeck United 6

Ewan Fieldhouse marked his Pinchbeck United debut with a first-half hat-trick as they smashed struggling Wellingborough Whitworth 6-0 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday.

Josh Smith, Ollie Maltby and Liam Ogden were also on-target as the Knights leapfrogged Daventry Town and returned to the top of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division table.

It’s now an impressive 36 league games unbeaten for Ian Dunn’s side, who were without a host of key players on the day.

Player unavailability left the squad decimated on Saturday, but player/boss Dunn was impressed with what he saw – especially from Yaxley loanee Fieldhouse.

“Without being disrespectful, we probably would have handpicked this fixture given our problems,” said the Knights chief. “We literally had half a team out.

“When you actually look at who we had missing – the likes of Andrew Tidswell, Chris Shipley, Stacy Cartwright, Ash Murrell, Jack Smith and Tyler Wright – I thought the lads did fantastically well.

“We had a plan to start quickly and I wanted us to put them under pressure and be 2-0 up by the 15-minute mark.

“It went like clockwork really. To be 5-0 up at half-time was great, as it allowed us to protect a few of the players carrying injuries.

“We managed to wrap Jason Field and Lee Beeson in cotton wool and I think we’ll benefit from that long-term. Obviously, the changes unsettled us a bit as we brought some youth into the side.

“Credit to Whitworth, they had a few chances and caused us problems in the second period. If they had started that way, it may have been closer.

“As for Ewan, it was obviously a great debut for him. We’d like to keep him here for as long as we’re able, but nothing has been agreed with Yaxley.

“What he lacks in pace he makes up for in his predatory instincts. It was a great debut for him.”
