Dunn targets perfect October as Pinchbeck United’s purple patch continues

Red-hot Pinchbeck United remain on-course for a perfect October after easing to a 2-0 ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division win at Langtoft United on Saturday.

A rare first-half strike from defensive midfielder Nick Bishop and a second-half penalty won and converted by Dan Woods were enough for Ian Dunn’s side, who are now fourth in the table.

Pinchbeck haven’t conceded a goal since drawing 2-2 at Holbeach United Reserves on September 9.

That’s a run of six games in all competitions – and Dunn’s charges have won them all. The player/boss was even able to give himself a run-out in the closing stages for what was his first action in ten months after a serious ankle problem.

Although he’s not getting too carried away, Dunn is hoping his side will complete a perfect month with another shutout win in the PFA Senior Cup at Stanground on Saturday (1.30pm).

“It took us 15 minutes to get going,” admitted the ex-Spalding United and Holbeach United forward. “But once we did, it was a bit like attack versus defence.

“We missed some great chances in the first half and should have been comfortably ahead at half time. After the break, they just didn’t get in our half.

“I did think their lad was lucky not to be sent off conceding the penalty, but it wouldn’t have made any difference really.

“It would be nice to complete a perfect month, that’s certainly our target.

“I know this run has to end soon, but it’s going to be all about how we react to it.

“For me, we’re still making baby steps and there’s much more to come.

“I’m happy to be in fourth place after a tough start, but there are teams with games in hand. For example, the game with Whittlesey is a big one in a few weeks.”

Pinchbeck handed a start to keeper Joe Ashton with Jordan McCready banned, but he’s unlikely to be a permanent fixture.

Pinchbeck: Ashton, Leggett, A Murrell, B Murrell, Lawe, Bishop, Gardner, Oldham, Ogden, Wooods, Edwards. Subs used: Brown, Dunn, Wright. Not used: Ross.

Attendance: 25.
