Ian Dunn was pleased to see his Pinchbeck United side rediscover their winning touch on Saturday as a Dan Woods double dispatched hosts Sawtry.
Woods netted a scrambled first-half opener in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division clash, before finishing off a top team move in the second period to seal a 2-0 victory.
The goal was described as “different class” by Pinchbeck player/boss Dunn, who was involved in the goal himself. Woods curled home via the post from 20 yards following a Liam Ogden cross, with Tony Edwards and Dunn also playing a part.
It all could have been different for United, though, with Sawtry denied a clear-looking penalty before a goal had been scored.
Although he admits he thought it was a spot-kick, Dunn believes his side were full value for a three-point haul that moves them up to sixth place.
“I thought they should have had a penalty.” admitted the player/boss. “But these things happen.
“They’ll be angry, but they couldn’t dispute that we were the better side.
“Having not played for two weeks, you’re always worried. But we showed great hunger and desire.
“We must have hit the woodwork three times and I don’t think Jordan McCready in goal had a save to make. On the balance of play, we probably should have won by a few more.
“Our second goal was a fantastic finish by Dan, different class. It was encouraging to see us look so good going forward.”
Dunn will hope that his side take this performance into Saturday’s PFA Senior Cup clash with Sutton Bridge United at Knight Street (2pm).
