Dring’s heroics with the bat not enough for Spalding Town 2nd in Bourne run-fest

A brilliant 99 from Chris Dring wasn’t enough for Spalding Town 2nd as they lost a high-scoring game with Bourne 2nd by 23 runs at the Memorial Field on Saturday.

Batting first, Bourne posted an imposing 261-3 from their 45 overs in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division showdown.

Town took on the challenge and reached a fine 238 before being bowled out in the 38th over. Big-hitting Bourne were boosted by a 91 from Adam Binns and Josh Bentley’s 90 not out.

Alex Want (1-33) did bowl the dangerous Jon Howard for 22 early on, while Harry Decamps (1-43) and Hafiz Majeed (1-68) also picked up wickets.

Spalding’s reply started with fireworks from Dring and Majeed, who lumped on the runs.

Dring was very unfortunate to be bowled by Ben Woodward on 99, while youngster Rowan Good also smashed the stumps of Majeed for 62.

Number three Simon Juckes cracked 19, but the rest of the order failed to build on the start with Binns bagging 4-42.
