There was a double defeat for Moulton Harrox this weekend.
The 1st XI lost by 103 runs at home to Skegness in the Championship South.
They opted to field first and enjoyed early success, especially with keeping the run rate down.
Rauri Drumm was particularly excellent taking 2-17 from his nine overs while Oliver Despicht (1-16) was also economical despite being wicketless.
Despite wickets from Paul Edgeller (2-50), Harry Lovall (2-42) and Curtis Todd (2-53), Skegness were able to accelerate and post 224/8. Jordan Visagie top scored for Skegness.
Chasing a revised 230 from 48 overs following a short rain break, Moulton found themselves 4/2 and 3/29 in reply but were given hope thanks to a good partnership of 59 from Drumm (45) and Edgeller (30).
They lost the last seven wickets for 38 runs though and slid to 126 all out in the 38th over.
Moulton’s Sunday side fell to an agonizing eight run defeat to Ketton Sports in the Rutland League Division Four.
The home side’s young attack kept Ketton down to 165/5 from their 40 overs.
Jotham Suwarneraj (2-30), Sethmina Adhikaramge -14), Jay Hemmant (1-12) and Harry Shersby (1-13) had the visitors 65/5 but then an unbeaten 100-run partnership between captain Brett Whaley (48 not out) and Freddie Riddington (51 not out) proved crucial.
After openers Drumm suffered a three-ball duck and Harry Lovell (16) was out, Moulton were 34-2.
Cameron Fox though led an impressive counter hitting 82 from just 60 balls including 13 fours and a six.
He put on 66 with Harry Shersby to take his side to 126/3 and well ahead of the run rate.
But after Fox played one big shot too many and Shersby was run out, the tail folded despite Harry Earth (12) helping his side to within 19 of the Ketton total and still with five wickets in hand.
Those fell for a total of just 11 runs though and Moulton were 157 all out with 27 balls remaining.
