‘Use it or lose it’ on village hall

One of the new faces who has stepped forward to run a village hall has stressed the importance of communities to use the facilities or face losing them altogether.

Margaret Fry was one of a number of people who have stepped up after a warning that Tydd St Mary Village Hall faced an uncertain future due to a lack of funds.

Now a new committee has formed in response to a plea for new blood.

They’re looking to put on a host of fundraising events, recently hosting a bingo night and there’s a Table Top Sale taking place on Saturday (June 27).

“The village hall is a community space for everyone in the villages of Tydd St Mary and Tydd Gote,” said Margaret.

“It would be a huge shame to lose what is at the heart of our lovely little villages.

“I and my fellow committee members are going to try our hardest to get people interested.

“If we don’t and the building stands idle then it will go to wrack and ruin.

“We’ve now got some younger people in with a bit of enthusiasm.

“We’re looking at making the bingo night regular, race nights and quiz nights.”

Tydd St Mary Village Hall is on Main Road between Tydd St Mary and Tydd Gote.

The Table Top Sale takes place at 12pm and will include a host of games as well as stalls.
