Donington Lloyds Bank to close as well as Holbeach

The Donington branch of Lloyds Bank is among a number that will be closed in January 2019, it has been revealed.

Earlier today The Voice revealed the Holbeach branch is to close.

Customers at the Donington branch also received letters this morning to say their local branch in Market Place will also shut.

Like with Holbeach, it will be semi-replaced by a mobile branch bus that will visit the town, but the details of where and when this will happen are yet to be revealed.

District and parish councillor Jane King said: “I’m really angry about this. I thought something would happen when it closed on a Friday, something the parish council fought against.

“I’ve already had no end of people saying they want to bank in the village. I know of people who have moved to the area who have changed their bank account to Lloyds so they can do so.

“We’re told we can withdraw money at the Post Office and the staff there are brilliant, but I don’t want to be asking for money over a counter where there’s no privacy.

“How many businesses in the village use it? The only alternative would be to go into Spalding or Boston but whose going to finish early enough.

“What about people like myself who don’t drive? We’re campaigning for a full bus service and I wouldn’t want to go to Spalding just to bank and then have to wait around two hours for the next bus.

“Also, if people have to go to Spalding or Boston, they’re not using the shops and services in Donington, so it has a knock on effect on other businesses.

“With all the building going on in Donington, a village that is getting bigger and bigger, we need more services, not less.

“‘We’re helping Britain to prosper’ it says on their website. Well they’re going against their manifesto with this. It can’t be that they haven’t got enough money to run the branch. They make enough on bank charges.”
