‘Disgusting’ town cemetery gets help

More people have been brought in to cut Holbeach Cemetery after the state of it was branded ‘totally disgusting’ by one councillors.

Coun Peter Savoury told fellow members of Holbeach Parish Council at a meeting last week that he’d been shocked at the state of how long the grass had become.
“I went for a walk up there and it looked totally disgusting,” he said. “We should be ashamed of ourselves.”
The meeting heard the authority currently has a shortage of staff and Coun Sophie Hutchinson indicated that councillors had taken it upon themselves to cut it.
“We’re now back to one member of staff,” she said. “We’ve been trying to cut it ourselves but it’s nearly three weeks in and we still haven’t managed to cut it once.
“I don’t believe we’re going to be able to cut it with one member of staff. Are we going to look to get a company in to cut it?”
The chairman of the parish council Clive Turner said: “We need to leave it to the committee.”
But in his update to parishioners he said “a small team of grounds staff from the district council have been brought in to assist.
“Thank you to our Coun Rachel Flood, chairman of Open Spaces and district councillor Tracey Carter for working in partnership to help plug this gap.”
