Derby win for women

Spalding United Women continued their impressive run of form with a 4-1 victory away at local rivals Deeping Rangers Ladies on Sunday.

In a closely contested derby, the visitors made a strong start and applied early pressure, creating a number of opportunities from open play and set-pieces.

The breakthrough arrived on the half-hour mark when Constance Onyinah surged down the right and delivered a pinpoint cross for Phoebe Richards-Reeves to head home.

Deeping responded positively and found a way back into the contest on 43 minutes, levelling the score. However, the response from the league leaders was immediate.

Onyinah restored the advantage just before the interval, finishing confidently to ensure Spalding led 2-1 at the break.

After the restart, the visitors continued to press, although Deeping remained competitive and came close to level the score, striking the crossbar from a free-kick.

Spalding added a third goal early in the second half, Onyinah finishing clinically after a long ball forward, before continuing to create further chances as the game opened up.

The result was secured in the closing stages when Spalding netted their fourth, completing a hat-trick for player of the match Onyinah.

The final whistle confirmed not only another three points but also an exceptional run of form; with 30 goals scored and just three conceded across their six fixtures in March.

With momentum firmly on their side, Spalding United Women now turn their attention to the upcoming League Cup final on April 9, where they will face Ely City at their home ground.

The Tulips will be looking to carry their strong form into the showpiece occasion as they aim to add silverware to an already impressive season.

The club is encouraging supporters to get behind the team, with travelling support set to play an important role on the day.
