Delight at GCSE results at Spalding’s Gleed school

There were tears of joy – and a few of disappointment – as youngsters collected their GCSE results from secondary schools around South Holland.

Voice photographer Nikki Clucas went along to the Sir John Gleed School and Spalding High School to capture some of the excitement.
Sir John Gleed has recorded improved examination results for the first time since opening in 2012.
Headline GCSE results showed an increase of two per cent – up from 31 to 33 per cent.
The small increase masked a massive 20 per cent increase in the percentage of students gaining high grades in English – more than 60 per cent of students gained C+ grades and made above national average progress.
Headteacher Will Scott said: “We’re pleased that we are now back on an upward trend and delighted with the English results.
“Maths results were disappointing but I think we may see a picture developing across the country with many schools experiencing significant issues in maths.
“There were some fantastic individual performances with a number of students achieving the top grades in all their subjects.”
The school has made significant progress over the last year with the removal of special measures and now signs that results are back on the way up.
