Debut goal from Sanders but Spalding United held in Sheffield

Spalding United couldn’t hold on to their 2-0 lead on Tuesday night as hosts Sheffield FC battled back to earn a 2-2 draw in a cracking Evo-Stik League First Division South contest.

Josh Moreman gave the Tulips a 1-0 lead at half time with a free kick on the edge of the box, before new signing Charley Sanders jumped off the bench to make it 2-0 mid-way through the second period.

Sheffield’s Matt Roney won and converted a 75th-minute penalty to reduce the deficit, before a last-gasp Ben Turner header denied Pat Rayment’s side a third win on the spin.

Meanwhile, Moulton Harrox made it five wins from as many ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division matches with a 5-0 win over Crowland Town at Broad Lane.

Ian Bradbury (2), Adam Abell (2) and Ryan Wheeler netted for Harrox, who remain unbeaten under new chief Dave Panton.

Down in Division One, Spalding United Reserves roared to a 3-1 derby win at Long Sutton Athletic.

An own goal and strikes from Jamie Cartlidge and Jake Farrell did the job for the Tulips, with Matt Cawthorn hitting back for Sutton.
