It was a tough day for Long Sutton in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division as leaders Grantham 2nd eased to an eight-wicket win on Saturday.
Having won the toss at Harlaxton, Sutton decided to have a bat – but were soon skittled out for 107.
An unbeaten 69 from Martin Parmley then saw the hosts cruise to 109-2 from 22.3 overs in reply to seal a routine victory.
For Sutton, only four players managed scores in double figures; Adam Wright (12), Peter Cook (10), Alastair Drohan (24) and Josh Baker (14).
In contrast, Glenton Williams (4-23) and Matt Barry (3-14) were Grantham’s chief destroyers with the ball.
Defending that total always looked a tall task for Sutton’s bowlers and so it proved. Paul Edgeller ran out Stewart Mudie (5) and Charlie Crisp (1-31) got rid of Danny Ashley (8), but Parmley and JJ Singh Gangotra (23 not out) saw Grantham home.
In the same division, Moulton Harrox were also handed a hefty 83-run defeat at Sleaford 2nd.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sleaford made an imposing 254-8 from their 45 overs.
It was Oliver Bean who scored the big runs, cracking 107 from just 79 balls for the hosts.
Ben Lambert (50) also scored nicely, while for Harrox Matt Rose (3-53), Shoaib Nasir (2-64), Travis Harrison (1-39) and Harry Lovell (1-29) got the wickets.
Harrox refused to roll over in reply and strong innings from Rose (42), Jack Barnett (25), Chris Beale (20) and Nasir (18) at least saw them to 171 in their allotted overs.
This Saturday sees Harrox host Bourne 2nd, while Sutton welcome Boston (both 1pm).
- A big 94 from Beale wasn’t enough for Moulton Harrox on Sunday as they lost by two wickets against City 2nd in Division Four East of the Rutland League.
He helped Harrox to 188-7 at Woodlands, with Harrison (37) also scoring well. Tom Richardson
Woodward starred with 4-43 as Moulton tried to defend their tally, but Farhan Rehman’s 53 helped the hosts to 192-8.
Long Sutton 2nd also lost by 39 runs at Ufford Park 2nd in the same division.
Drohan’s 3-27 helped limit the hosts to 188-7 batting first as Arsalan Maqsooud made 50.
Sutton were all out for 149 in reply, despite 45 from Drohan and 27 from Ryan Plant.
