A cricket club have thanked the community after their support looks like it’ll help them repair a vandalised wicket in time for the season to start.
Long Sutton Cricket Club started a GoFundMe website page for around £7,000 needed for repairs after vandalism at their Paradise Field base.
The artificial turf area of the wicket was ripped up by vandals.
The club appealed to the community for help with the costs, and they were left delighted with the reaction.
As well as the GoFundMe page raising around £2,000, the club has been given donations from Unite the Union and had events held for them by the bingo club based at the town’s Royal British Legion.
It’s led to Dales Sports Surfaces Ltd, of Leverton, to take on the work ahead of the new cricket season starting on April 6.
In an effort to reduce costs, club members dedicated their weekend recently to removing the remaining sections of the old wicket.
Julie Speed, from the fundraising committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying: “We are overwhelmed by the local support from the GoFundMe page, Unite the Union, Brenda and Sheila at the RBL bingo club, and other friends who have raised collections at their own events for the club. Thank you to everyone.
“Looking ahead, the club is excited to host its first home match on April 26 and warmly invites spectators to come along and support their endeavours.”
