A crackdown on people sub-letting their council house has been announced.
The South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, of which South Holland District Council is part, said it was doing so after a person was found to be not living in the council home they were allocated, and instead accepting cash for someone else to be there.
It’s not said where or when this took place, but said the matter had been handed to the Department for Work and Pensions on suspected benefit fraud.
The person was also found to be bidding for social homes elsewhere.
A spokesperson for South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, said: “The repercussions of such fraudulent activities extend beyond mere financial implications; they undermine the integrity of the social housing system and compromise the availability of housing for those genuinely in need.
“We take such matters seriously and will pursue appropriate legal action to ensure accountability and deterrence.”
The partnership has teamed up with Platform Housing for the crackdown.
The company delivers social housing in the area.
A spokesman for the firm said: ““This is an example of the impact fraud can have on people who are in genuine need of a home.”
