County title glory for Mail Cart

The Bowls Lincolnshire men’s and ladies’ county semi finals and finals at Blackstones Bowls Club in Stamford saw plenty of success for Royal Mail Cart bowlers.

In the men’s singles, Jordan Philpott beat Andrew Thurston 21-3 in the semi-final to qualify for the national finals at Royal Leamington Spa, despite going down 21-12 to Blossom Way’s Chris Hanslip in the final.

Kevin Ekins and Andy Dunham lost their men’s pairs semi-final on the final bowl 16-15 against Gary Morris and Matt Whyers (Burton House BC).

Ben Sharp, Dan Mills and Ben Wilson saw off the challenge of Burton House’s Mark Robinson, Gary Morris and David Bristow 19-18 on the final bowl of the men’s triples to qualify for the national finals.

The final against Ian Johnson, Dion Auckland and Mathew Orrey, of Grantham BC, saw the Mail Cart boys succeed 21-9 to become county champions for the first time.

Another county title was earned in the men’s fours where Steve Hill, Ashley Caress, Martin Spencer and Dominic McVittie beat Colin Cleary, Steve Boucher, Darren Trapmore and Lee Boucher (Horncastle BC) 22-9 in the semi-final and Sleaford Town’s Den Skayman, Nick Martin, Gary Gray and Kris Moore 18-5 in the final to book their trip to Leamington.

The men’s two-bowl singles saw Kevin Ekins beat Chris Hanslip (Blossom Way) to qualify for the nationals but he lost the country final to Mick Thompson, of Moorlands Railway.

Aidan Brickles (playing from Burton House) lost his men’s u24 singles semi -final 21-13 to Blackstones’ Owen Aspinall.

In the ladies pairs Ruby Philpott and Chelsea Spencer (playing from Cleethorpes BC) won their semi-final against Mary Johnson and Maria Clarke (Moorlands Railway) 22-9 and then beat Helen Butler and Penny Strong (Burton House) 20-8 in the final to secure a national finals spot.

Ruby Philpott, Caroline Cullum and Chelsea Spencer won their ladies triples semi-final 15-13 against Lesley Holmes, Di Wilson-Rogers and Lin Mountain, of Dunholme St Giles. However, they lost against Louise Whyers, Penny Strong and Annie Dunham (Burton House) in the final.

The ladies fours saw Ruby Philpott, Chloe Bland, Caroline Cullum and Chelsea Spencer win their semi-final against Kirsty Cox, Tracy Dent, Sharon Day and Anne Burchell (Cleethorpes BC) by 22 shots to 11. They then won the final against Petrine Ault, Marion Perkins, Christine Jackson and Julie Hicks (Moulton Harrox) 19-5 to become county champions and qualify for Leamington.

Chelsea Spencer lost her ladies two-bowl singles semi-final to Louise Whyers, of Burton House, 18-9.
