Police arrest 35-year-old woman after reports of a child being hit

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested after reports that a child had been hit while outside Sainsbury’s store in Spalding.

Posts were widely circulated on social media following the alleged incident on Monday July 27.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are investigating an offence of assault and are appealing for information following reports of a child in a pushchair being assaulted outside of the Sainsbury’s store, Holland Market, Spalding.

“We also believe the child was subjected to swearing and shouting inside the store as well.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was inside or outside the Sainsbury’s store around 3.30pm on Monday July 27 and saw or heard anything they believe may be related to these reports.

“Safeguarding actions in relation to the child has been taken immediately. The woman has been bailed while our investigation continues.

“As has happened in this case the police have been called, and we started our investigation as soon as we could.

“We have seen information being posted on social media and while we understand the concern, we must ask that people stop speculating and publishing information. This is because it can hinder our investigation and may taint witness evidence.

“It is vitally important that the criminal justice process is allowed to progress and that evidence given in a criminal investigation is evidence that has been seen or heard by the witness and not inadvertently affected by information they have seen elsewhere.

“Anyone who saw or heard anything they believe is connected to this incident is asked to contact the Investigating Officer by email at [email protected]
