County campaigns for ‘fairer’ funding

A new campaign has been launched by the county council in a bid to get more money from central government.

The Lincolnshire Growth Summit, held last Friday, was attended by councillors, MPs, mayoral candidates and business leaders.
It highlighted the fact rural counties like Lincolnshire continue to be short-changed compared to urban areas.
This year the authority expects to spend £350m on adult care alone.
“If the county were to be given its fair share, that would mean an extra £120m for our area each year.
“That additional funding would make a significant difference to our residents,” said Coun Martin Hill, leader of the county council.
He said the rural road network could be rebuilt, as an example, if the extra money was available.
“We are calling on the government to level the playing field and give our residents their fair share of national funding,” he added
