Councillor’s High accolade

A parish councillor has been an award for his work in the community.

John Smith, a member of Pinchbeck Parish Council, was on Monday (March 2) presented with the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire Award by the High Sheriff himself David Chambers at a ceremony in Horncastle (pictured).

He was nominated for the accolade by Cavan Collins of the Lincolnshire Community Foundation.

“John plays a significant role in numerous important local projects to improve community facilities,” Cavan said.

“As a parish councillor he has led efforts to upgrade and update the award winning Pinchbeck Hub into an open and accessible space and library through which new activities are coming to fruition and residents of all backgrounds have new, exciting ways to engage with other community members.

“Equally, John has also been central to revitalising the village hall in West Pinchbeck through measures which have improved the capacity to heat the space, ensured all who use the space can do so in a comfortable and safe manner with new toilets and accessibility measures, all of which have supported the area’s most vulnerable and rurally isolated residents with a space they can come together in.

“On top of this, John is also leading the charge on a wider Lincolnshire basis with FND Lincs, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of Functional Neurological Disorder within Lincolnshire, connecting together people facing the effects of this condition and advocating for improved local services and support to tackle the impacts of FND in the county.

“We wish to make known the passion and dedication John has to make the community he lives in a better place for all residents with this award.”

John said: “I am very proud of this recognition, especially for the county wide work around FND which started in Pinchbeck and the community work much closer to home.”
