Council looks to move its base

Holbeach Parish Council has officially submitted plans as it looks to move into new premises.

The authority wants to move out of Coubro Chambers, its home of the last 20 years, and into a bungalow in Carter’s Park, where the park attendant previously lived.
A spokesman for Holbeach Parish Council said that the property is ‘better suited to the day-to-day operations of the council.
“This strategic move is aimed at enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness, ultimately saving money for the community,” the spokesman continued. “This building has been part of the fabric of Holbeach for nearly 100 years and the parish council are keen to preserve this piece of history.
“The proposed new premises will be designed to be more efficient and cost-effective, ensuring that the council can operate more sustainably.
“Additionally, the new location, being closer to the park, will provide easier access for all visitors. Importantly, the new building will be fully disabled-friendly, reflecting the council’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
“This relocation is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to providing the best possible service to its parishioners.
“By moving to a more suitable and efficient office space, the council aims to improve its operational capabilities and better serve the community.”
According to the planning documents, work will have to be carried out to provide disabled access and toilets while two bedrooms will be merged to form a meeting room.
One parish councillor, Sophie Hutchinson, has spoken out against the proposals claiming that £50,000 had been allocated to spend on the move without the authority detailing what savings it is planning to make.
Coun Hutchinson has also raised official objections to the application claiming there is not enough car parking for staff, up to 18 councillors and the public.
The council argue there is sufficient parking at the council car park at Boston Road South.
Holbeach Parish Council has not stated what it intends to do to with the Coubro Chambers, parts of which it rents to local businesses.
