Council looks to give Holbeach’s Peppermint Park businesses planning head start

A council is looking to guarantee outline planning permission to businesses wishing to locate to a new Holbeach business park

It comes following the official launch of phase one of the Holbeach Food Enterprise Zone, to be called Peppermint Park.

The park aimed at the agricultural industry is to be built near to the A17’s Peppermint Junction.

Phase one of the development aims to create 16,000 square metres of business and support around 400 jobs.

South Holland District Council (SHDC) has launched a consultation into a Local Development Order which would effectively give permission for companies looking to build premises for specific uses to bypass the first stage of the planning process

Businesses it would benefit over the five years it would be in effect include offices, general industry, education, conference facilities, hotels, restaurants and cafes.

Restrictions on the size of premises for certain businesses are proposed.

Any development would still need reserve matters permission to be passed by SHDC planners for its final design.

The consultation into the Local Development Order opens today Thursday, and runs to 5pm on Thursday, March 29.

A copy of the draft order is available for the public to view at SHDC’s offices in Priory Road, Spalding during working hours.

Copies are also available at Holbeach Library on Fleet Street, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.15pm and from

Holbeach Parish Council’s office on West End, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.

A public consultation drop in event will be held on Tuesday March 13 between 3pm and 7pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Albert Street, Holbeach, PE12 7DR.

Phase one of Peppermint Park was officially launched on Friday, February 9 by Lincolnshire County Council at the University of Lincoln’s National Centre for Food Manufacturing which is looking to be one of the first developments on the site subject to full planning permission being granted.

SHDC deputy leader Coun Nick Worth, portfolio holder for Growth and Commercialisation, said: “This is the largest investment in South Holland for many years and the result of excellent partnership working and joint investment from SHDC, Lincolnshire County Council and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership.”
