Community’s tribute to fallen

Crowland Abbey is set for Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday after a 20ft poppy drape was placed on the historic building.

The community has come together to make the eye-catching installation over the last few months.
It was then put up at the weekend to create a cascade on the building.
Project manager Judy Smith said: “Since January around 100 residents of our town have been working to create a poppy drape which went up yesterday.
“We’ve also had children making plastic poppies from empty single use plastic bottles and they came to the abbey last week and planted them along the path to the entrance.
“I would like to thank each and everyone of those who took part for the time and skill they’ve given to get what was a pipe dream back in a January off the ground.
“It just shows what we can do when we pull together.
“Crowland Rocks!”
