Community centre’s laptops appeal

Long Sutton Market House is appealing for donated laptops for local schools.

Volunteers who run the community centre at the town facility, are asking for people to donate any old, unused laptops to benefit children in the area who are currently learning at home.

A spokesman said: “Children throughout the country are being asked to stay home and not travel to school. This is fine when the family has the resources to support home schooling.

“Children are now being forced to use the computer equipment required to connect to schools online to received teaching support and lesson information, often in competition with their parents.

“Most families these days have the internet already, in addition the Government have made available a number of laptops to our schools to be supplied to children who need them.

“However we know that our local schools are still struggling and are desperate for laptops.

“Although many have been handed out, more are required. Even when a family has received one, priority is usually given to the eldest child meaning that younger siblings are missing out.

“Anyone who uses computer equipment (from mobile phones to high-end computers) will know that there is always a new model coming out and for that reason many people have old laptops stored away in a cupboard somewhere.

“On behalf of Long Sutton Market House Community Centre, we are making an appeal for donations of your old laptops that can be refurbished and passed on to our local schools.”
