Come back later to book marriage

Spalding Registration Office is to move to a new location in the town – but its unclear where.

Couples requesting to be married at the Bath Lane offices later next year are being told they can’t because staff don’t know where the offices will be.

Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed it is looking at options to relocate the registration offices, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

A spokesman for the authority said they were unable to say exactly when the current building will close, but added all existing bookings would be honoured.

“There will be a ceremony room in Spalding available for local residents, we haven’t got a confirmed location yet so are unable to take bookings,” the spokesman continued.

Potential options for the relocation are thought to include Ayscoughfee Hall and South Holland District Council’s Priory Road offices.

Kevin Kendall, county property officer at the county council, said: “The county council’s lease on the current building is coming to an end.

“The council is currently considering options for relocation of registration services, but no date for this has been confirmed yet.

“The current venue is quite limited in its provision and a new facility would seek to improve this.”

One couple, who wish to remain anonymous, are looking at new venues after being told they couldn’t be married at the Registration Office in August.

The groom told The Voice: “We’re both born and raised in Spalding and working in the town.

“We were told they didn’t know where the office would move – so to “hang on” and try again in December or January.

“This has put a pause on our plans, as we can’t organise anything until we’ve booked the wedding itself.

“We are not a rich family, so budgeting is essential.

“We’re trying to organise a wedding where our children including one son from abroad being present.

“All this takes time and money to prepare.

“I’m more worried that the longer we wait, the less time we have to prepare.“
