Coffee group gets on board

A group that encourages the elderly and retired of Whaplode to get together for a cuppa, were making waves recently.

Those that attend the regular Coffee Pot group which meets on Wednesday mornings in the village were among the first this season to enjoy Spalding’s Water Taxi.

The regular attraction between the town and Springfields is back running for 2019.

Admiral of the Fleet Anthony Grunwell was delighted to welcome the Coffee Pot members on board courtesy of Jan Whitbourn.

Anthony said: ‘I was delighted to be able to take this group out, it was a beautiful day and they were all full of life and chatter.

“I think everyone really enjoyed their trip on the boat despite some awkwardness in getting on and off with some, they were really up for it!

“Scones and hot cross buns with strawberry jam and fresh cream were the delicacy of the afternoon, all washed down with a fruit drink; it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon in such fine company”.

Janet Congreve, who runs the Coffee Pot group alongside a small committee said; “The group thoroughly enjoyed the trip and will remember the remarks and stories from the ‘Admiral’ for a very long time!

“They all enjoyed the refreshments and were thrilled at the end to get an Easter Egg as they got off the boat as a leaving gift.”
