Child in hospital after four people found in refrigerated lorry in Spalding

A two-year-old boy was taken to hospital after he was discovered in the back of a refrigerated lorry in Spalding.

The toddler was found along with a ten-year-old boy, a 43-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman after police were called to reports from members of the public who heard banging coming from inside a lorry parked in a layby on the A16 close to the McDonalds roundabout, shortly after 1pm on Thursday, May 8.

The Spanish registered lorry was a refrigerated unit containing cabbages and broccoli bound for a company in Butterwick, near Boston, and the four people were suffering from effects of the cold.

The four people, from Iran, have been detained and will be placed in the care of the UK Border Agency and taken to immigration detention.
