Residents at Holbeach Hospital have a new present before Christmas, thanks to a generous donation.
The day room at the community-run institution has been completely revamped and now includes its own bar.
The work had been funded from the estate of the late Jean Stupple, a previous resident of the hospital.
Jean previously lived in Fleet Hargate and, after time spent in the armed forces, managed care homes.
A plaque to mark her contribution has been put up as the new day room was opened by Lord John Taylor of Holbeach last week.
The League of Friends for the East Elloe Hospital Trust, which runs the institution, also put money towards the revamp.
Lord Taylor said he was one of those that grouped together in the 1980s to buy the property off the NHS to keep it open.
“I’ve done a lot of good and interesting things but I think this is the most innovative thing I’ve done,” he said. “The people of Holbeach have given a great deal of money and time to be able to keep this service.
“It’s inspiring to return and see it still thriving. It was a terrific honour to open the new room and meet the people.”
MP Sir John Hayes was also among those in attendance at the opening.
“Holbeach Hospital does a wonderful job and we should be very proud of it,” he said. “It really fits us locally providing a much needed service to the community. It’s always had my support and always will.”
