Cheers to great festival success

The Bank Holiday weather could hardly have been better for this year’s Spalding Beer Festival which saw great crowds.

Organised by the town’s Round Table, the annual event attracted more than 4,000 visitors this year.

There was plenty of choice for the ale-lovers and live music was also popular.

Crazy golf, face painting and a bouncy castle were among attractions for the younger visitors to the Castle Sports Complex in Spalding over Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

There were more than 100 beers and ciders on offer for the third festival and some 21 bands and solo artists were on the bill.

Festival chairman Sam Nundy said it was the best festival yet.

“We get better each year and this year was great. The weather helped too.”

Mr Nundy, who is stepping down after three years in the role, said the first steps in planning for next year’s event would be taken in the coming weeks.

“There were over 90 ales and ciders on offer this year. We ordered more cider as that went well last time, but the fruit-based cider was gone by Sunday afternoon so we will have to order more again,” he added.

The organisers are keen to hear from solo acts and duets for next year’s event.

“We had an outdoor stage which was really popular and we could have run it for longer if we had more acts. The stage isn’t huge but is ideal for one or two,” said Mr Nundy.

The festival was supported by 100 businesses and organisations from the area.

Mr Nundy is taking on the role of Round Table area chairman and will be working across the county for this year.

“We are always looking to recruit members, both men and women,” he said.
