Charity serves up meals in Holbeach

A community project has launched its latest service serving hot meals for those that need it in Holbeach.

Project St Thomas has been set up in Spalding by the Catholic community to create a community centre for the town, but one of its first actions was Hub In – Hub Out serving free meals from 12pm to 2pm on Sundays.

It’s since expanded to providing a free meal at the monthly Community Mind Matters meetings in Pinchbeck and is now extending its food service to Holbeach.

Hub In – Hub Out Holbeach launched on Monday, February 6 from Holy Trinity Church on Foxes Lowe Road.

A spokesman for St Thomas’ Project said: “They have begun, as they did in Spalding, by serving simple food and soup to anyone who wants to drop in – everyone is welcome.

“There is no charge for the food we offer, but if people wish to make a donation they are welcome to do so, but it is never expected; nor do you have to belong to any church, this service is free for all, and our aim is to open every Monday from 12pm to 2pm.”

Project St Thomas was started after thanks to a donation, St Norbert’s Catholic Church took ownership of the former methodist chapel next door which it is turning into a community centre.

Originally, the plan was to provide soup and a sandwich from the redundant chapel (‘Hub In’) and at various locations around the district (‘Hub Out’).

Local councillors donated funds to purchase everything required to take this project to various locations and the soup and wraps were originally donated by Bakkavor.

Lead volunteer Mannii Pinnick said: ‘It has taken six months to get ourselves properly launched, but we are now fairly well established serving on average 30 meals every Sunday and new faces appear each week.”
