Charity bid hits the right notes

An opera singer has raised over a thousand pounds by singing more than 100 songs from his Pinchbeck home.

Jeff Woods, aka Pavanotti, had the idea to raise the money for Dementia UK and for the appeal recently been set up to raise funds for the village’s parks.

He particularly wanted to do something in memory of wife Jacqui’s mum Maureen Dennis who was diagnosed with dementia shortly before her death in March.

On Sunday, May 31 outside of his Mountbatten Avenue home he opened with Come Back to Sorrento before closing the show at 2pm with Nessun Dorma, the last song of the main set.

As well as the opera songs there were covers by the likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis and others including a Hungarian folk song especially for one of the many neighbours who were in their front gardens for the performance.

Jeff said: “It was a great day and there was a lovely community atmosphere.

“We had around 50 or 60 people who were out on their lawns or who came for a wander down.

“I’ve got wonderful neighbours many of whom made cakes to boost the totals even further.

“I’m really grateful for everyone that came out and supported me or who donated. But it was really a team effort from everyone in the street.”
