A keen cyclist is taking on a mammoth challenge to raise money in memory of his nephew.
Mark Necus is taking part in the London to Brighton Cycle Ride on Sunday raising funds for Rethink Mental Illness.
Mark’s nephew Adam Jackson, who was well known on the South Holland football scene, took his own life in March. He was 34 and left his wife Emma and two young daughters.
Mark (64) said: “Adam’s death left a huge hole in the lives of family and friends.
“It had spurred me to take part in the ride this year and I am raising funds for Rethink Mental Illness, in memory of Adam.
“My original target was £300 but I have now raised £739!
“If I could get to the £1,000 mark then that would be superb.”
Mark is no stranger to long cycle rides having completed the The Hayling Island To Paris cycle ride three times, raising £10,000 for Barnardo’s in the process.
For his 50th birthday Mark, who lives in Norwich, cycled from the Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid to the Nou Camp in Barcelona and this will be the second time he has done the 55-mile London to Brighton ride.
He hasn’t really done any training, saying: “I went out on Saturday intending to do a gentle 25 miles as a warm-up, got lost in the countryside around Norwich and ended up doing 45 miles!”
