Celebrations for Lithuanian group

There were celebrations in Spalding to mark a special anniversary for the Lithuanian community.

The Ayscoughfee Gardens event was last Thursday, July 6, the anniversary of the coronation of the country’s first and only king, Mindaugas in 1253.
Lithuanian Statehood Day commemorates the anniversary and is widely celebrated.
“It’s nice to come and sing together. Kids enjoyed themselves and made crowns, and entered competitions,” said Vaida Kelmoniene.
“We want to thank Peterborough’s Happy Kids Fitness Club chairman Egle, who did her bit by moving us all around with dancing and sport,” she added.
The club is for Lithuanian families with children with opportunities to be active outdoors while speaking their first language and socialising.
The event was also supported by district council members Dave Ashby and Mark Le Sage.
Members of the community sported green T-shirts with the Lithuanian flag and a horticultural display also reflected the colours of yellow, green and red.
Everyone was encouraged to post on social media with a photo frame.
