Catt’s cracker earns Holbeach United a very rare draw as Clifton’s

Holbeach United 1 Boston Town 1

Boss Danny Clifton was full of pride after seeing his Holbeach United side battle to a 1-1 draw against rivals Boston Town on Saturday.

The already-relegated Tigers had lost their previous 14 games in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North, but rose to the occasion in their final home game of the season at Carter’s Park.

Loui Catt’s first Tigers goal put Clifton’s side ahead at the break – and what a goal it was – but Fraser Bayliss, who started the season with Holbeach, levelled early in the second period to ensure the derby spoils were shared.

Clifton had targeted a victory in the fixture to give the fans something to cheer after a nightmare season, but lost six of his proposed starting line-up on the eve of the fixture.

Despite that setback, Tigers’ chief Clifton was very please with what he saw.

“It was a very good result for us despite the difficult circumstances,” he said: “I had a team planned and was looking forward to the game – but for six to drop out was very tough.

“We had to bring in some of the lads who were on standby and perhaps that aren’t currently earmarked for next season.

“But they all came in and did a great job for the club – I couldn’t have asked for anymore.

“It was an amazing day overall really. We had great support and the mood was very positive. It filled me with pride, actually.

“Having played all of the top teams in succession, it was nice to play a different kind of match.

“The defensive unit looked solid and Loui Catt scored a great goal, but we just couldn’t hang on for the win – which would have been nice.”

Catt’s goal was only Holbeach’s sixth at Carter’s Park all season from 17 games, with the draw just their second at home.

Tigers: Blake, Gilbert, Harris, Wilson, Nuttell, Catt, Addai, Camfield, Thomas, Wilson, C Dalliday. Subs used: Chaudhari, O Dalliday.

Attendance: 95.
