Care home’s wheelie good spin

Residents and staff at a Holbeach care home have raised over £400 for charity via their cycling skills.

Holbeach Meadows Care Home set a challenge of riding 103 miles recently to mark Dementia Awareness Week.

They did so on a static bike loaned by Royal’s Gym in the town and actually doubled their target, eventually finishing after 206 miles.

Home manager Gemma Woodcock said: “The team really pulled together to complete the challenge, so much so that they had met their 103-mile target by lunchtime.

“What was really great to see was the residents getting involved. Some supported us and cheered us on, some sponsored us, while others got involved in contributing to our target using a mini exercise bike, one even had a go on the main exercise bike.

“We raised a great total of £427.50 for Dementia UK and matched that for our Resident Fund which will go towards the development of a sensory garden for the residents. Once again I’m very proud of the team and the residents and very grateful to Royals Gym for supporting us and of course everyone who sponsored the event.”
