Care home celebrates Onam

Residents at Beech Lodge Nursing Home joined staff in celebrating the end of Onam, an annual Hindu cultural festival.

It was part of ‘Strictly Country Court’ the operator’s month of dance-themed activities.

Some of the care team at the home are from the Kerala region of India and were keen to share their traditional celebrations with residents.

The day was filled with activities, with some of the residents joining in and finishing their colourful Pookalam designs and then creating a fantastic window display.

In the afternoon a member of the care team, Azeeha, dressed in traditional clothing and enthralled everyone with her graceful Thiruvathira dance routine. Other members of staff participated and impressed residents by wearing their traditional clothing.

The day ended with their very own talented Chef Bijoy serving up a special Onam meal of 13 different vegetarian dishes usually served on banana leaves and traditionally shared by family and friends.
