Defiant Spalding RFC skipper Sam Cooke insists that he still has total faith in his side to turn their disappointing season around.
Town have lost all five of their Midlands Two East (North) games so far this season and have exited two cup competitions.
That’s hot on the heels of relegation from Midlands One East, where they managed just one league win all season.
Cooke admits that Spalding’s fortunes must change before Christmas, but has called on the club’s fans to turn out in droves and cheer them to victory against Nottingham Casuals at the Memorial Field on Saturday (2.15pm).
“We’ve not clicked yet,” admitted Cooke. “But I’m not worried or thinking about relegation – not at all.
“If we get to Christmas and things haven’t turned around, I’d be foolish not to be concerned.
“I have faith in this group of players and I’m 100 per cent sure we can start getting some results. I’m just looking at it as a bad start.
“Home games have been our big strength in recent years and we need to get that going again. Having a good crowd behind us is vitally important and I hope that’s the case on Saturday.”
Saturday’s visitors Casuals are in fifth place, having won three of their five games so far.
They’ve yet to win away from home – and the Town skipper feels that his side have a great chance of winning if they can play like they did in the first half of their 31-12 loss at Melbourne last time out.
He added: “Nottingham look to have had a pretty good start, so we’ll need to improve on our last game at Melbourne – that’s for sure.
“I was pretty disappointed by that result, we did very well in the first half and you could sense that the win was there for the taking.
“But we eased off at the exact time we needed to push harder and the second half wasn’t good enough.
“Saying that, it was pleasing to see the belief and desire there in the first period. If we can put two halves like that together, I’m positive the results will come.”
Town have no new injury concerns ahead of the clash.
