It’s Denny derby delight for Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s men against Long Sutton

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club were pushed all the way by rivals Long Sutton in their opening match of this year’s Denny Cup.

They were pushed all the way by Sutton in the national knockout competition before winning 76-67.

Despite starting badly at home, Spalding quickly gained their composure and started to show their quality. With the two away rinks playing well, Spalding nipped in front just after half-way and only pulled away in the very latter stages.

Rink scores: Home – Graham Smith won 18-15; John Needham lost 16-23. Away – Martin Spencer won 22-13; Scott Dunham won 20-16.

Next up for Spalding is another derby, this time with Stamford, on November 14.

  • Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies continued their good form with a comfortable 102-66 victory over Skegness in the Trudy Bates County League.

Spalding used their home advantage well at the Castle Sports Complex, winning on all rinks to earn the maximum 16 points on offer.

The best winning rink for Spalding was Freda Lyon, Maxine Coleman, Maisie Belding and Gill Needham – who secured a 21-7 win.
