Braithwaite winner helps comeback kings Holbeach United see off ten-man Eynesbury

Eynesbury Rovers 1
Holbeach United 2

Gutsy Holbeach United came from behind once again to claim an impressive 2-1 victory at fellow high-fliers Eynesbury Rovers on Tuesday night.

The Tigers, who came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 at ON Chenecks on Saturday (see page 37), were 1-0 down at half-time thanks to a Steve Gentle strike on 36 minutes.

But Gentle soon turned villain and was sent off four minutes before the interval – handing the impetus to Danny Hussey’s side in the process.

They duly delivered, too, with Billy Smith levelling on 68 minutes after a cross from Jack Smith on the right.

The winner came 15 minutes from time, with defender Joe Braithwaite rising highest to nod home a corner.

The win sees Holbeach move four points clear in fourth place and they are six points off third-placed Rugby Town.

Boss Hussey has yet to lose a Future Lions UCL Premier Division game so far in his spell with the Tigers, winning all four of his fixtures.

It’s also five league wins on the spin for the men from Carter’s Park, keeping their hopes of a top three finish very much alive.

Hussey said: “I was really proud of the lads, especially going a goal down and fighting back to win 2-1.

“I just wish we had converted more of the chances we created.

“Overall, five wins out of five with 15 points is a nice return.”

Tigers: Drury, Harker, Clay, Braithwaite, Jackson, Tinkler, Avis, Bird, J Smith, B Smith, Tricks (Hamilton 81). Not used: Davies, Keeble, Mead.
