Billiards: Title hopefuls Donington take chance

Spalding and District Billiards League title hopefuls Donington made the most of a match in hand by taking all seven points against Crowland B.

Norman Gookey’s side swept aside the visitors, winning 600-435.
Jim Thompson had breaks of 22 and 20 in his 200-170 defeat of Allan Sharman.

That result meant Long Sutton started Monday’s match at Consti as deposed league leaders.
They returned with a 5-2 win, Mick Cooper their only casualty as Robert Adams edged him out 200-195. Cooper’s best break was 36.

Meanwhile, Mick Johnson was unable to get anywhere near his magnificent 121 break from seven days earlier, but Consti B were still 7-0 winners at Holbeach B.
Johnson had six notable breaks, the best being 40, 39 and 36.
Team-mate John Keeton weighed in with a 31 in his 200-129 defeat of Ashley Bunn.

Mid-table Crowland A sent Pyramid B packing with a 7-0 defeat.
The visitors’ Martin O’Connor had the match’s top break with 28, but captain Neil Burton, Terry Everitt and Derek Tinkler all had notable knocks too.

Consti C’s Pat Bowman had a nice unfinished 21 to wrap up a 200-176 win over Holbeach C’s Daniel Coleman.
John Walker was the Spalding side’s other winner, Duncan Croker getting the home side’s two points.
