Billiards round-up: Johnson hits a 54 on opening night of the season

The opening night of the new Spalding and District Billiards League saw three teams register maximum points.

Perhaps the most eye-catching of Monday evening’s action saw cue ace Mick Johnson (O170) reel off fine breaks of 54, 34, 31 and 21 for Consti B at Donington.

However, he was on the losing side as the hosts triumphed 7-0 (600-508) with Nigel Brasier (R100), Tony Scully (R60) and Ben Wrigglesworth (R50), who made a 25 break, all winning their frames.

Also prevailing were Pyramid B, who dispatched their visitors 7-0 (600-543).

Maurice Phillipson (R70), Neil McLean (R90) and Darrell Read (R30) all took frame wins for the Bourne side.

The final side taking maximum points were Gosberton B, who beat Pyramid A (600-490).

Marcus Pell (O20) and Shane White (O30) made breaks of 30 and 25 respectively for the victors.
