Big plans passed for Little Miracles

A charity that helps over 300 families with children who have special needs in South Holland is set to open a new base.

Little Miracles has been granted planning permission to turn a former gym on Church Street, Holbeach, into a new play and support centre.

The South Holland branch of the initially Peterborough based charity has been meeting in available halls.

But it’s raised over £20,000 to get its own centre which it hopes to equip with sensory equipment and a play area that it hopes to rent out to others, as well as provide meeting and training rooms.

“We cover the whole of South Holland and initially looked at Spalding buildings but they were too expensive,” said Elizabeth Kilbon, the leader of Little Miracles in South Holland. “We’d have only got somewhere a quarter of the size of what we’ve managed to get in Holbeach and it also has four disabled toilets ready to use.

“We work with over 500 families in South Holland while Peterborough has over 3,000.

“People don’t realise how many people need this kind of help and a lot more support is needed for these families.

“Our aim is to ensure things like the sensory room is open to be hired out by schools and other groups who can use it as part of their SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) support.

“Our aim is that this will benefit the community as well as ourselves.”

Little Miracles South Holland is hoping to get the keys to the property next week though a date for its opening has yet to set.

It currently has eight volunteers and is working out how the charity as a whole will progress.

“There’s still a way to go but we’ve taken a large step forward,” Elizabeth said
