‘Bienvenue’ of bells for Spalding’s twin town guests

The 60th anniversary of the link between Spalding and its French twin town Sézanne is being rung in with a special celebration being held this weekend.

The Friends of Sézanne host their counterparts from the Champagne region on alternate years and this year it will mark its diamond celebration with a special event at the South Holland Centre.

From 5.30pm on Saturday, the centre’s carillon will be playing a selection of French and English tunes to welcome visitors from both towns for a special gala dinner.

The Champagne reception will be attended by delegates from both countries including the mayor of Sézanne and the deputy leader of South Holland District Council, Harry Drury.

It’s being held alongside a range of events including visiting attractions in the local area.

A spokesman for the society said: “The ‘Friends of Sézanne’ hope passers-by will enjoy the French-flavoured music and might even be inspired to join the group and enjoy its many benefits.”
