Bid for more houses on site

A developer has applied to build more homes on Holbeach land that’s been the subject of two previous application refusals.

The land to the rear of 37 Fleet Road was previously subject to applications to build one home in 2016 and six homes in 2020.

Both were turned down by South Holland District Council’s planning officers who felt the homes would be overbearing on neighbouring properties, particularly those on Grimwood Close, and amid concerns the new homes would be too close to industrial units on the Fleet Business Park.

But central government planning officers upheld the appeal and granted permission in 2016 while documents submitted with the latest application claim the 2020 refusal has also been granted on appeal.

Now Oakwood Homes wants to build eight homes on the land to be accessed by a driveway between 35 and 37 Fleet Road.

The developer says the new homes would include a pair of three-bedroom semi-detached houses, three terraced units with three beds and three detached homes, two with three beds and one four.

Documents submitted in support of the application state: “This scheme will help towards the council’s five-year supply of deliverable houses and will have minimal impact on the surrounding area due to the proposed nature of the development taking into account the design of dwellings, space/dense/parking landscaping for adjacent existing dwellings.”

  • This article previously incorrectly stated that Oakwood Homes made all three applications. The two previous applications were made by other companies.
